Flood warning - protect yourself now. It may be myth or it may be fact that we are experiencing the effects of global warming but there is one fact I’m sure you’ll agree on, we’ve had a very wet summer.
As the rain falls water levels rise placing many homes in severe risk of being flooded.
How would this effect you?
The Environment Agency states ’almost one in six homes is at risk of flooding’. Floods are the most common and widespread of all natural disasters, except fire.Doubtless you are aware of the devastating effects a flood can have on a community and residents although many are unaware if they are correctly insured. Is your policy up to date and are you covered?
With today’s economic climate many have tightened their financial belt and looked at ways of cutting outgoings and may look at reducing their insurance policies as a way to make savings. Not only is this false economy it may cause unnecessary problems in the event of a flood. If you reside in a flood prone area it is essential you are correctly insured to ensure the rivers bank is the only bank that will ever come under pressure and not your own.
Many people may feel they don’t require flood insurance. You don’t have to live in a valley, flood plain or next to a river or sea to experience flooding.
A common cause of flooding is flash storms which can cause water levels to rapidly rise up through drains and flood basement and ground floors rendering your property uninhabitable. This would cause havoc to the uninsured household. Imagine having to have to seek and pay for alternative, emergency accommodation which could even extend to a costly hotel until your home dried out and repairs were carried out at your expense. If you’re a landlord you could be liable to cover not only repairs but the bill for accommodation.
Our advice is to ensure you are fully covered in your Landlords insurance. For advice on how to prepare for a natural flood click here to visit the Environment Agencies help page. It’s not only natural floods that cause massive damage. Many floods in the home are caused by defective plumbing, radiator leaks and faulty stopcocks.
Our advice is to check your policy today as many insurance policies do not cover for floods. If you are unsure or find you aren’t covered for floods call Primecover today on 01204 841880 and chat with our experts who can advise on the best flood cover for your property and circumstances.
P.S. We are hoping for a little sun before winter arrives but if it continues to be wet, don’t worry the peace of mind a Primecover Flood Insurance Policy gives will have you singing in the rain.
