Injuries involving damage to the spinal cord are amongst the most serious that someone can suffer. 

Damage to the spinal cord can result in paraplegia (paralysis of the legs) or quadriplegia (paralysis to both arms and legs) as well as involving the function of other major organs such as the bladder, lungs and bowels.
