Every year thousands of people are injured as victims of violent crime such as assault, rape, robbery and domestic violence.  It is often the case that victims are unaware that they are entitled to compensation for the injuries sustained.

If you have been a victim of violent crime then you may be entitled to apply for compensation through a Government-funded body, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).

In order to make a claim you must meet the following criteria:

• The claim must be made to the CICA within two years of the incident
• The incident can be for any type of violent crime even a minor crime, provided that the symptoms last for at least 6 weeks
• The police must be informed as soon as is reasonably practicable after the incident.
